Learn to self lift-off! I’ve been doing a self lift-off for about a year or so after having 95% sort of dropped on me while prepping for a meet last year. It took a lot of practice and patience but it’s definitely more consistent and safe for me. .

Instead of just pressing “up” off the rack. I first find my hand print on the bar, wedge myself onto my upper traps by lifting my hips and using the bar weight for leverage, then walk my feet down. Once my feet are firmly wedged into the ground, with my hips still off the bench, I drive my body weight back while squeezing my lats to ensure the bar doesn’t roll back. Once the weight is hovering over the j-cups, I imagine I am performing a “stiff arm lat pull” off of the rack as I bring it over my chest. This allows for a consistent, stable, and safe lift off for me without feeling shocked when someone dumps the bar over my chest or accidentally pulls my shoulders out of position.

If I am taking a new max weight I usually ask for a “guiding hand-off” (when someone barely touches the weight mostly for my safety). I ALWAYS ask for a “spot” over 80% and let the spotter know I do not need a lift-off. Cause, safety (duh!)🙄🤷🏽‍♀️.

Put my back out last Tuesday doing deadlifts with a rookie mistake 🤦🏻‍♂️so not been able to train much until this week.
Yesterday did a 100kg strict press single to test the back fully raw bar the belt as my kit is in the wash (@pdaspinall will appreciate that 😂)
And 140kg deadlift from today focusing purely on form and technique which felt comfortable, fast and painless.
Just going to spend the next 5 weeks light and drop a bit of weight at the same time whist the back heals up. ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖

Put my back out last Tuesday doing deadlifts with a rookie mistake 🤦🏻‍♂️so not been able to train much until this week. Recently, twice now, when I have gone thrift shopping, the sizes that once fit me, no longer do. I know that “sizing” generally changes from brand to brand, but ooie did that make me feel uncomfortable. Never in my life have I ever had to purchase a “large” or specifically search for clothing made of stretchy material so it will fit. Do I feel uncomfortable? No. Do I feel like I’m large? Not usually, but compared to beauty standards, yes. Who compares me to those standards? Nobody but myself. It’s so hard to get past that wall; society has done such a brilliant job making it practically indestructible. I catch myself thinking about loosing weight, eating less, and the only thing it does is perpetuate my inability to accept my body for what it is. Practice, deep breathing, stepping away from the thoughts that weigh you down, and moving into a positive mind state. It’s a process. One ill sure as hell never give in to. 🤘🏻

Words can’t describe how this past weekend went. Through the highs and lows I was able to step on the platform and compete!! In my opinion I had a rough meet and felt like I left a lot on the platform; but in the end I still pushed for my goal!!

Big PR for me but also kinda disappointed in my grip. 405 for today’s AMRAP and the bar slipped out of my hand after the 9th rep. I really really wanted ten but it’s okay. Life happens, at least I now have a goal to reach for next time. I honestly though I would only be able to get about 6-7. I never thought the day would come where I could rep out 405lbs on the deadlift. This sport rewards you when you deserve it. What you get out of it is what you give it. On the road to a 600lbs deadlift now. Shoutout to @calisthenics_aesthetics for pushing me past what I thought I could do.

Normally I do Heavy Bent Over Rows or Rack Pulls...but today I decided to go for some heavy weight Chin Ups.
Ventured up to 40kgs for almost 5...and no I'm not lying, I don't have millions of followers to try and bullshit 😂 (if you look on the right side, you can see a distant reflection of me).

Following this, I did some:
• Pullovers
• Face Pulls
• Single Arm (and single foot) Rows
• Bodyweight Back Extensions as a finisher.
Legs tomorrow, hopefully back isn't too trashed from today.

But I’m back, body is weak currently so only managed two top sets of 160x5 on deadlifts. On the plus side - CONVENTIONAL. Collarbone is well on its way to recovery and shoulder press is becoming easier. Doing some work with chains and without a belt or straps to work on grip. 365 and 515 with chains. I believe the chains are 25lbs each but, the resistance feels like a lot more and will definitely help when going for bigger numbers.

Also thanks to the chalk, that came in just in time. I order liquid chalk. In my opinion I think it's better than the loose chalk. 🤷‍♀️ I only applied the liquid chalk once. Ooh no mess 👌
