Islington📍 [complimentary] Southeast Asian restaurant @bananatreeuk have some seriously good vegan options!
👉🏼 SWIPE FOR FULL VEGAN MENU
They launched their vegan menu this January for Veganuary, and I was so impressed I had to go back for more 😍 Aside from a plethora of stuff for the veegz, Banana Tree have been working with @orangappealuk for over 7 years and have donated tens of thousands of pounds to the sanctuary, which works to help protect orangutans whose habitats are increasingly endangered. Great to see a restaurant really committed to doing good!
Right, onto that food then. I had:
🍜 Blackened Monk's Noodles: wok tossed rice noodles with veg and chik'n bites cooked in a blackened sauce and served with sweetcorn cakes, sesame rice cracker and Viet pickle 〰️ I LOVE me a plate with loads of different elements on it. The rich noodles with the sweet cakes and the tangy pickle worked well. The veg tasted fresh, however the rice cracker lacked flavour and was a bit stale. I would've also loved for the pickle to be a bit sharper in flavour
🍗 Kajang Satay: barbecued chik'n sticks served with palm leaf sticky rice, cucumber and Viet pickle and peanut sauce 〰️ I mean, give me peanut anything and I'm happy. The chik'n they use is outstanding though - great tender texture and flame grilled taste. The addition of that pickle to balance out the heavy taste of the peanut sauce was a nice touch
🏠 The restaurant is bright and spacious with nice decor but a relaxed vibe
🙋🏻♂️ The staff were really friendly when they came to take my order, but when I first came in and stood at the counter the staff member didn't look up or acknowledge me
