Today is National Bump Day! Getting pregnant wasn’t easy for us so finding out we were expecting finally was truly a happy time. Pregnancy is an amazing time in a woman’s life. It can also be the scariest time. Especially when you live in a state with the highest maternal death rate in the country. Unfortunately, Georgia has led the U.S. in maternal deaths. In 2016, the maternal mortality rate in Georgia was at 39.3 deaths per 100,000 live births, according to a report from America’s Health Rankings. Even worse women of color account for the largest amount of these deaths. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the maternity mortality rate to live birth ratio in 2011 to 2013 nationally was 43.5 deaths per 100,000 live births for black women. Getting enough protein is crucial to good health. It is needed for functions such as:
-Growth & maintenance of tissues,
-Enzymes and they functions that depend on them,
-Hormones (communication between cells, tissues, organs)
-Maintaining proper pH
-Transporting/storing nutrients
-Energy
-Immune system *
1. Satiety - Studies show that protein is by far the most filling b/c it reduces your level of the hunger hormone ghrelin and boosts appetite-reducing hormones (GLP-1, peptide YY, & cholecystokinin). In one study, increasing protein intake from 15% to 30% of calories made overweight women eat 441 fewer calories/day without intentionally restricting anything. High protein diets can reduce cravings and late night snacking.

2. Increase Muscle Mass & Strength - and adding muscle increases your resting metabolic rate.

3. Thermic Effect - this refers to the energy used to digest and metabolize the food. About 20-30% of protein calories are burned while the body is processing it, while carbs have 5-10% and fat 0-3%.

4. Prevents Muscle Loss - when you’re trying to lose fat, the weight loss isn’t always 100% fat. You lose some muscle as well in a caloric deficit. Keeping protein high and weight training can prevent muscle loss and metabolic slowdown during a fat loss phase.

5. Lower blood pressure - one study gave ppl an extra 60g of protein per day and saw a larger decrease in BP than some hypertension prescription drugs.

6. Longevity - Strength, muscle mass, staying lean, and having good internal functionality are vital, and they all have been linked to better health & quality of life as people age. *

Starting with the good ol barbell back squat 🍑, you want to make sure that you focus on maintaining stability not only in your core, but also through your hips and shoulders. Do you do this?! If you are like me you probably over-analyze everything. This is one of the biggest reasons people never see change! If you never get started because you are trying to perfect everything then nothing ever happens or changes!
- The perfect diet, workout plan, sleep schedule or whatever it is doesnt exist. Truth be told something could always be better! -
So focus on being better than you were yesterday, walk an extra 5 minutes or maybe take the stairs! Get your veggies in first thing in the morning so you dont have to worry about them the rest of the day!

Anyways..... so I finally had another great workout at the gym this morning. My back is definitely going to be sore tomorrow! 🔥
As most of you know, I’ve been discouraged about my fitness stuff. Mainly my body and how it’s just not working the way I want it too lol BUT...after a great workout, I’m feeling better. 💪🏻 (I’m still working on my forms so bare with me lol 😂 🤦🏼‍♀️)

I didnt go up to 285lbs just because I'm coming from deload week & only did squats once last week.. & I just dont want to put any stress already.

I tried something new , farmers carry ☻ now those had me dying at the end of session. Never have done them. So I was like why not 🤷‍♀️ I will definitely be doing them again. -
