I usually implement prehab drills like this at the beginning of workouts before we hit our main lifts for the day. We finally have mats! These guys definitely took us the most time to find and budget as we have been building our home gym. We got them from @tractorsupply and knew we only wanted to cover half of the garage. They are 3/4 inch thick, rubber stall mats. It’s now so much easier doing exercises with our dumbbells and other floor movements. We couldn’t be happier! We still have some more equipment we’d like to get. What are y’alls must haves for your home gym?

Today, I text @ryberning “I’m doing black (the heavy weights at @madaustintx) today. LETS GOOOO!” This set up my mindset for the workout and had me pumped up and ready to go the moment we started. Being able to touch 1:28 split on the rower and stay under 1:40 each effort has me riding a high the rest of the workout. Putting it out into the world really does help. It had me thinking and ready for it alllll day. I will work to continue going into a workout with this mindset. Always trying to be better! .

With that in mind I have been very anxious lately because of all the growing I have to do in a very short time. Mind you, I welcome it 😤, but i feel the pressure none the less.

A pattern I have noticed in my life is that when I face a lot of unknowns and uncertainty I look to a new hobby to let my mind become the beginners mind again, in a sense. In the past I would bounce from hobby to hobby, but this time is different.

I have noticed patterns in my ‘hustle’, ‘grind’, ‘goals’... if I trust the process, the results are inevitable. So through this time of high pressure I got myself a Ukulele to help me handle my mental and emotional state.

I have always found instruments to be an extension of me, and this time I feel it more than ever because I have learned from consistent practice in business and fitness, that I can master anything 🙌🏽🎼🐲

There are days where I have no idea what I'm going to teach walking into the Academy. I feel it out, I listen, I see how people are moving and then show a sequence based on the group.
I enjoy it...I enjoy the challenge...I enjoy teaching...and I love passing on the knowledge I've gained.
People often ask me why? It's simple, everything I know doesn't help anyone if it does with me. I believe we have a duty to pass on our knowledge and experiences so others can grow and learn while preserving a strong tradition passed on by my coaches, teachers and masters.

Going from working out at @f45_training_roundrock everyday to taking 5 days off will be super weird but my body deserves the rest! 💥New Movement Wednesday💥 💥FOCUS: DEADLIFTS💥
Today we will focus on the importance of core work and how it is beneficial for your DEADLIFT. 💥FIRST SLIDE: DEADLIFT💥
To set up for your Deadlift, start with your feet and work your way up to your head, neck and shoulders. Stance is important. Based off your foot position, you are able to isolate the area of your posterior chain you would like to work on. Then focus on your Hip Hinge, proper Core engagement. Next check point will be Head, Neck and Shoulders. Keep your alignment in your spine, pull your shoulders away from your ears and engage your lat’s. Always have a spot to focus your gaze on. 💥In the next slide, you will see a DEAD BUG variation using a block to engage your core and keep your spine neutral. As you place the block on your knees, keep your feet at 90 degrees and put pressure on your hands to keep the block steady. Pull your belly bottom towards your spine, keep your back flat and breathe. Consistency with nutrition is key...regardless of how you feel about it. —————————————
I eat the same meal for lunch everyday: a cup of broccoli, half a baked sweet potato, and a filet of Swai.
The honest answer is, sometimes I don’t look forward to it. I get bored with food. I get bored with extreme structure and routine. But the reality for me is, if I don’t have that structure, I’ll go off the rails. So I make my lunch, every Sunday morning, so it’s waiting for me and ready, every day. I’m not eating to gain weight. I’m not eating clean to lose weight. I’m not on a diet. I am simply controlling what I am choosing to put in my body. I have too much I want to do, to not have the right fuel to get it done.

One of the biggest challenges I have with my personal nutrition and sticking to this pre-planned meal is being in an office. Specifically today, my coworkers go out to eat at lunch and invited me, which I thanked them for but reminded them that I brought my lunch and didn’t want to waste food. The responses are always infuriating and shameful: “oh yeah, don’t ask him, he’s always on a diet”, “oh yeah he’s better than us and eats good”, “don’t bother, he’ll make us eat ealthy”. It used to really bother me. Now, I don’t care. I don’t have to explain myself to any of you. And I certainly don’t have to justify my own healthy life choices, so you can feel better about your own lack of discipline.
People will think what they want. I neither control that, nor do I care. ————————————
Why do I bring all this up? Because even with these coworkers at the office knowing I’m a personal trainer and Krav Maga instructor, and am actively in the fitness industry, I still get shit on for my food choices and not conforming to others food choices and refusing to cave in to the peer pressure.
